Muhammad Ali Signed Framed Display
An exceptional Muhammad Ali signed display, combining an original autograph from one of the most iconic sporting figures of all time with one of the most celebrated photographs from the early years of his extraordinary career.
The centrepiece is the famous 1961 underwater portrait of Muhammad Ali, photographed by renowned photojournalist Flip Schulke in Miami, Florida. Taken when Ali was just 19 years old and still known as Cassius Clay, the remarkable image captures the young fighter standing on the bottom of a swimming pool in his unmistakable boxing stance.
The story behind the photograph has become part of Ali folklore. The young fighter told Schulke that training underwater was part of his conditioning regime, convincing the photographer to capture him beneath the surface. Ali later admitted that the story had been invented — a brilliant early example of the charisma, confidence and instinct for publicity that would help transform him into a global icon.
Alongside the photograph is a copy of Yusuf Islam’s (Cat Stevens) “How I Came to Islam”, personally signed by Muhammad Ali. Its inclusion gives the display an added layer of significance, reflecting the importance of Islam within Ali’s life and identity and creating a fascinating connection between the young Cassius Clay depicted in the photograph and the man who would later become known throughout the world as Muhammad Ali.
The signed piece has been individually framed within the larger presentation, while a dedicated plaque beneath the photograph commemorates Ali as “The Greatest of All Time” and a three-time World Heavyweight Champion.
Finished within an imposing black frame with contrasting silver detailing, the monochrome photography and vivid signed element create a striking museum-style presentation.
Muhammad Ali transcended boxing to become one of the most recognisable and influential figures of the 20th century. Memorabilia carrying his original signature remains amongst the most sought-after in the sporting world, and this unusual presentation offers a particularly impressive way to celebrate his remarkable legacy.
